Tips to Keep Your Garden Alive While You're on Vacation!

We have all worked hard this year and deserve some much needed time off! However, when we do so we are leaving our daily household responsibilities such as tending to our plants and garden(s). While we can enjoy a nice break our plants cannot join us, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the health of your garden! Just follow some of our tips prior to leaving and you can enjoy your trip without worrying about the plants at home.

  1. Weed Before You Go
Just like our plants, weeds require water and nutrients to grow. By weeding prior to the trip you are giving your plants the most water and nutrition possible without having to fight with the pesky weeds.
  2. Consider Mulching
Before you head out, we recommend applying a layer of mulch around your plants. Mulch will help retain the moisture to help your plants stay hydrated!
  3. Water, Water, WATER!
A day or so before your trip, we suggest that you deeply water your plants. Not only will this allow your plants to get a good drink of water, but it will also help the mulch absorb some to help sustain your plants as well. Another option to consider would be to install a drip irrigation or a sprinkler system that you can put on a timer.
  4. Check the Weather
We all know that the forecast changes on a daily basis, but we can still get a good idea of what will happen. If you see rain or stormy weather while you are gone then you do not have to worry! Your plants will get plenty of water from mother nature. However, if you see a dry spell with days of hot weather you may want to consider asking a friend or neighbor to check on your garden/plants.
Enjoy your vacation, because you have earn it! :)
