Helping Your Garden Beat the Summer Heat!

July is almost over, but the summer heat is not letting up! The combination of heat and minimal rain are two of the main reasons that we tend to see our landscape start to suffer. It is during this time when many find it hard to find the motivation to go outside; let alone maintain their gardens. Here at Molzon’s we 100% understand, and that is why we have come up with a few tips to help keep both you and your garden stay happy and healthy during the summer months!

  1. Water Properly
We all know that water is essential when it comes to plants, however watering correctly is far more important. We recommend watering your plants either in the early morning hours when it is cool and before the blazing sun comes up. Also, you do not have to water every single day. If you deep water your plants two to three times a week, your plants should remain healthy and make it through the heat.
  2. Avoid OVER Watering
While too little water will cause your plants to become dehydrated, too much water is just as bad for them. Over watering will cause your plants to wilt and could lead to a type or root or even a fungal disease from depriving the roots of oxygen.
  3. Mulch, Mulch, Mulch!
Mulching helps not only to insulate your plants from both hot and cold temperatures, but it will also keep the soil moist. Depending on how much sun your garden gets determines how much mulch you will need. If you want unsure, give Molzon’s a call and we will be happy to help!
  4. Look into Heat Tolerant Plants
Believe it or not, there are a wide variety of plants that love and thrive in the sun. Some of these flowers include; Hibiscus, Lavender, Yarrow, Aster, SunPatiens, Zinnia, and so much more.
  5. Take Care of Yourself
This we think is one of the more important tips of the list. We highly recommend that you avoid doing any gardening or gardening chores in the middle of the day. Also, we highly advised to work for a shorter amount of time and to remember to take breaks. Don’t forget to wear appropriate attire (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses) and stay hydrated!
